RSMIN is looking for your feedback on the “Security from Trespass and Protecting Food Safety Act 2020” from the Ministry of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs by September 30, 2020.

If you have a farm or are a transport truck driver who transport livestock you many have comments or concerns that you would like us to relay. Over the past 2 years, our government has heard from farmers and the broader agriculture community about the threat of on-farm trespass activities. We have heard that farmers are worried for their own safety, the safety of their families, as well as risks to bio security and food safety.

We are asking you to review the Discussion Paper that has been posted on the regulatory registry outlining the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affair’s proposed approach for several regulatory items and to ask for your comments. (Click on read more for the link)

This includes items such as:
 Defining “farm”;
 Determining areas that may be marked using signs as an animal protection zone and the manner in which they can be marked;
 Prescribing areas on a farm, facility or prescribed premises as animal protection zones;
 Prescribing farm animals;
 Restricting, limiting or clarifying the types of actions that are considered to be interference or interactions with farm animals that are prohibited;
 Prescribing other persons who are exempt from the requirement of acquiring consent to access property; and
 Prescribing the aggravating factors that may increase the gravity of an offence.
