Summary of the data:
In the first letter, Amos Wright, Indian Agent at Prince Arthur's Landing, wrote to J.S. Dennis, Deputy Minister of the Department of the Interior, requesting direction on annuity payments under the Robinson Treaties to the Métis in the area. According to Wright, the Robinson-Superior Treaty, 1850 made no provisions for the Métis and therefore he had refused to pay them, however, this was causing some dissatisfaction.
In response to Wright's letter, L. Vankoughnet, Deputy Superintendent General of Indian Affairs, wrote that the Métis already on the pay lists should continue to be paid annuities, however, no new names were to be added.
