RSMIN Mineral Development Advisor (MDA) – Job Posting

Location: Red Sky Métis Independent Nation – Thunder Bay, ON

Job Summary:

The Mineral Development advisor will participate in the education, execution, analysis and evaluation of Red Sky Métis Independent Nation Mining Consultation activities.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Review, document, and map data
  • Conduct literature review
  • Collect and analyze data
  • Prepare materials for RSMIN Committee review
  • Prepare interview questions
  • Recruit and/or interview subjects
  • Maintain accurate records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary
  • Summarize interviews
  • Manage and respond to project related email
  • Design and maintain databases, data collection forms, and error checking methods and related programs for efficient collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Prepare, maintain, and update website and wiki materials
    Document Areas and Points of Interest in GIS Software
  • Participate in research project meetings and propose recommendations for procedure modifications and development in the areas of data management, quality control, and assurance
  • Attend area seminars and other meetings as necessary
  • Keep project participants informed of project progress through regular reports and newsletters
  • Prepare other articles, reports, and presentations
  • Following Internal processes
  • Develop consultation department role and make recommendations to RSMIN Council
  • Conduct interviews and meetings, information gathering and sharing sessions

Additional Expectations:                                                                                             

  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Project Manager. Work requirements and schedules must be discussed with the Project Manager to ensure that the work priorities can be accomplished within the 75 work hours scheduled biweekly.
  • While the work may be of complex nature, tasks will assigned and the incumbent plans/schedules his/her own work. In other words, some personal judgment will need to be exercised to determine appropriate work schedule.
  • This position is based at the main office in Thunder Bay and requires travel within the city of Thunder Bay and surrounding areas, as well as some travel away from Thunder Bay.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or acquiring a degree in a relevant field of study or
  • 2 years of relevant experience in a mining or environmental capacity
  • Experience in a field relating to sensitive information
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to present and facilitate small and large scale meetings
  • Above average proficiency in computer and Internet applications
  • Self-motivated and ability to work with little or no supervision
  • Ability to record and report accurately and proficiently
  • Team oriented
  • General understanding of the regulatory process in Ontario
  • Obtain or willing to obtain GIS and other skills required for the position through training.
  • Valid driver’s licence, with a clean driver’s abstract.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with GIS (ArcMap)
  • Consultation Experience
  • Mining Experience
  • Geology, Biology or Forestry areas of study
  • Bilingual (French and English)
  • Knowledgeable in aboriginal Law and provincial regulations involved with mining
