Endangered Species Act and Crown Forest Sustainability Act Integration

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) is proposing an integration of the Crown Forest Sustainability Act and the Endangered Species Act, that will set out specific directions for how Forestry Operations can be conducted in proximity to species at risk in Ontario. The integration has directions set out for a total of 28 species at risk that can found across Ontario. Of all of the species listed in the integration 13 are found within the Robinson Superior Treaty area, and include Woodland Caribou, Bats, Birds and other animals. Red Sky Métis Independent Nation has reviewed the all of the materials and compiled them into a report for the community to review.

The proposal is in early consultation phase and will require and official post the Environmental Registry to allow for any changes to provincial Acts.  The purpose of the early consultation is to address any concerns relating to RSMIN’s Aboriginal and Treaty Rights prior to the official submission.
