Lac des Iles Mines Ltd. (LDI) – Procurement

Expression of Interest
Lac des Iles Mines Ltd. (LDI) will begin construction of a Water Management Facility (WMF) and Tailing
Management Facility (TMF) centerline raise in Q4 of 2015 to increase its water and tailings capacities.
The existing perimeter TMF dams comprise of rockfill (1m minus), transition rock, filter (liner bedding)
zones and an upstream HDPE liner which is anchored at the current crest level. The centerline raise will
entail raising the existing dams from the 498m elevation to 501m elevation.
The WMF is designed similar to the existing perimeter dams but, due to it being greenfield construction,
additional construction steps are required; clearing, grubbing, high pressure grout (seepage cut off
system) and a concrete curb anchored on bedrock. This is in addition to rockfill (1m minus), transition
rock, filter (liner bedding) zones and an HDPE liner.
WMF Scope of Work:
 Clearing and grubbing;
 Peat and organics removal;
 Subgrade preparation and mass earthwork grading;
 Excavation, transport, stockpiling of select borrow or engineered rockfill material;
 Placement and compaction of rockfill, bedding and transition material;
 High pressure grouting for the installation of the proposed seepage cutoff system, may be
sub or separate contract;
 Placement of geotextile, riprap and amour stone;
 Installation of concrete curb for liner tie-in along the natural rock abutments;
 Installation of seepage cutoff in areas as shown on construction drawings;
 Surface preparation of all areas to receive the geosynthetic lining system;
 HDPE geosynthetic liner installation;
 Excavation and backfill of anchor trench for liner system tie in at the embankment crest;
 As-built survey submitted in AutoCAD™ or compatible format; and
 Build to engineering specifications and required QA/QC.
TMF Centerline Raise Scope of Work:
 Subgrade preparation and mass earthwork grading;
 Excavation, transport, stockpiling of select borrow or engineered rockfill material;
 Placement and compaction of rockfill, bedding and transition material;
 Vertical extension of an existing low permeability bentonite-soil cutoff wall;
 Surface preparation of all areas to receive the geosynthetic lining system;
 HDPE geosynthetic liner installation;
 As-built survey submitted in AutoCAD™ or compatible format; and
 Build to engineering specifications and required QA/QC.

Lac des Iles Mines (LDI) is the Company’s flagship mine and is one of only two primary palladium
producers in the world. The mine is located approximately 85 km northwest of the city of Thunder Bay,
Ontario and consists of an underground mine and a large 15,000 tonne per day Mill with significant excess
capacity available for future production growth. LDI is currently undergoing a major expansion to
transition from mining via ramp to mining at a higher throughput via shaft. Through the utilization of the
shaft and higher mining rates, LDI is expected to benefit from increased production at reduced cash costs
per ounce, transforming the mine into a long life, low cost producer of palladium
