General Accountabilities:

  • Reporting to the Senior Manager, First Nations & Métis Relations the successful candidate will support in the implementation of HONI’s First Nations & Métis Relations policy.
  • Responsibilities include the following:
  • Contact with management and staff of other departments and divisions, separately and when engaged on multi-disciplinary project planning teams to discuss matters pertaining to First Nations & Métis Relations.
  • Contact with representatives of First Nations & Métis community leaders, government departments and agencies and with federal, provincial, and municipal leaders, to discuss projects/programs affecting communities.
  • Contact with consultants and specialists while participating in contract negotiations for their services and when dealing with contract administration matters.
  • Requires visits to First Nations and/or Métis communities to discuss projects/programs, monitor project progress, assess field staff performance and attend meetings.
  • Assisting in identifying existing and future risks to Hydro One’s ability to deliver reliable, low cost energy and helps develops strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Supporting the establishment of influential strategic internal and external relationships.
  • Consult with other utilities and ministries with regards to matters relating to First Nations & Métis Relations.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

Selection Criteria:

  • Requires experience in project management and negotiations, including developing and implementation of consultation plans.
  • A background in business planning and reporting with well-developed analytical skills.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the goals and aspirations of First Nations & Métis people in Ontario and how they relate to the energy industry.
  • A period of over 4 years and up to and including 8 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
  • The ability to work in a busy environment with competing priorities and limited direction.
  • Requires planning, organizing, scheduling, assigning and checking work, and monitoring the quality and quantity.
  • A university degree in indigenous studies, social sciences, public or business administration, public policy or equivalent.
