City of Thunder Bay Public Art Program CALL TO ARTISTS & ARTS ORGANIZATIONS “White Pine Community Public Art Project”

City of Thunder Bay Public Art Program
White Pine Community Public Art Project

The City of Thunder Bay has two bolts of white pine in its possession that were salvaged from a tree that was cut down/vandalized in June 2010. A third bolt has been milled. In order to create something meaningful with the material that gives back to the community, the City is offering this opportunity for artists and arts organizations to provide concepts for how the wood could be used artistically.

A maximum of two (2) project concepts may be submitted.  The concepts should describe the artwork and the art-making process, particularly how the community will be involved in either aspect. The intent is for the selected artist(s) / organization to engage the community as an integralpart of the artistic process, and provide meaningful experiences for the participants.

The white pine may be used in any manner and the theme / interpretation is open. The pine may be used to create a single large scale work or art or several smaller pieces. Other materials such as metal, paint or inlaid glass may be incorporated with the wood.

Innovative and creative approaches are strongly encouraged.***Information Meeting*** Wednesday, January 16, 2013 @ 10:00 a.m. at the Pond Pavilion, Prince Arthur’s Landing (small building across from the skateboard park, near the pond. Multi coloured walls.) Attendance is optional, but strongly encouraged.
