Type of document:
Primary documentation, letter, Hudson's Bay Company Records
Summary of the data:
This letter, authored by William Benjamin Robinson on September 23, 1850, to George Simpson , Governor of the Hudson's Bay Company, thanks Simpson for the Company's assistance during the Robinson-Superior Treaty, 1850 negotiations. Robinson mentions that Mr. Swanston and Mr. McKenzie put together a census of the Aboriginal population at Lake Superior.
Finally, Robinson requests that the Company distribute the annuity payments on behalf of the government, on the first of August every year. Robinson is concerned that politics may interfere with the payments to the Native Bands in the region which would be considered a breach of faith and as a result the Company was better suited to distribute the money.
