On August 4, 1849 Alexander Vidal, Port Sarnia Deputy Provincial Surveyor, and T.G. Anderson, Superintendent of Indian Affairs, are requested by the Order-in-Council to investigate the Native lands surrounding Lake Huron and Lake Superior. The order indicates that compensation will be granted to the First Nations in the region in exchange for the surrender of their land; Vidal and Anderson are tasked with reporting on the expectations of the First Nations residing in that territory, for said exchange.
